The Themes International Music Library was formed in the early '70s by renowned composer/musicians Alan Parker (guitars), Mike Moran and Alan Hawkshaw (keyboards), Barry Morgan (drums) and producer Graham Walker. Feeling that library music had lost touch with contemporary popular music, they decided to concentrate on this area. They enlisted the further talents of Les Hurdle (bass guitar) and Frank Ricotti (Latin and tuned percussion) and guest musicians such as Madeline Bell, Ray Cooper and Brian Bennett, and began recording.

The albums, presented in distinctive 'picture sleeves' (at a time when KPM and other libraries were using plain functional covers), were an instant success, and Themes became the leading library in the area of contemporary and film style music. Themes International was acquired by KPM in 1976, by which time the catalogue contained some 26 albums. These have now been digitally re-mastered in full and are available online, in their entirety, for the first time.
